How to apply

Four steps to your scholarship.

Applications are accepted February 1 through March 31 each year. Here is everything you need to apply.

Applications are reviewed once a year. Apply anytime in this window; the signed packet must be postmarked by March 31.

If your timing or circumstances fall outside the window, we still want to hear from you. Reach out and we will help you find a path forward.

    Confirm you are eligible

    You, or your parent, must have at least two years with an ARWA member water or wastewater utility. ARWA staff and board members and their children also qualify.

    Choose your path

    Apply for an academic award (paid to your accredited school) or a certification award (tuition, manuals, and exam fees for Operator Certification School).

    Postmark by March 31

    Applications are accepted February 1 through March 31 each year. Your signed packet must be postmarked by March 31. Incomplete applications are not considered.

Scholarship conditions

  • Three academic scholarships are awarded each year, one per region, up to $750 each, paid directly to the accredited school.
  • Three certification scholarships are awarded each year, one per region, covering tuition, manuals, and exam fees up to $750 each.
  • Scholarships are awarded across the Northern, Central, and Southern regions of Alabama.
  • One award per applicant.
  • Student applications require both the student and a parent or guardian signature. Adult applicants need only the employee signature.
  • The complete application and all attachments must be signed and submitted in full.
  • The program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin.
